Monday, October 12, 2015

This is your chance to see the best titles on the big screen for free from Korea (Secretly, Greatly), Norway (The Liverpool Goalie), India (3 Idiots), France (In the Name of my Daughter), China (Full Circle), and more. The MMFF Cine International runs on October 9-13, 2015 at The Podium Cinema 1.

The Metro Manila Film Festival Executive Committee hosted a Thanksgiving Evening last September 30, 2015 at the F1 Hotel in Taguig City. This was to launch the Cine International, the MMFF’s program in partnership with foreign embassies for the free screening of foreign films and to award the winners of the MMFF Summer Student Film Festival. The event was hosted by Miss Philippines Earth 2015 Angelia Ong.

Outgoing Overall Chairman Atty. Francis Tolentino addressed the audience which included the past and present participants of the MMFF mainstream and New Wave Section, members of the ExeCom, student finalists, and members of the media.

“Another addition to the growing programs of the Festival is the Cine International, a partnership that we developed with five (5) embassies — the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Indian Embassy, the Korean Cultural Center, the Chinese Embassy, and the French Embassy. This program offers the Filipino audience and filmmakers a wider perspective of not only the world’s cinema but the world’s cultures as well,” Tolentino said, who also presented plaques of recognition to their embassy partners.

Cine International will be screening at The Podium Cinema 1 in Mandaluyong City on October 9-13, 2015. The MMFF Summer Student Short Film finalists will also be screening a week before on October 2-6, 2015.

New Wave Head Miss Digna Santiago was also present that evening to promote the current competitions of the section for independent filmmakers and animators. This year’s New Wave Section is presented by HOOQ. “The MMFF New Wave continues this year with even more opportunities for independent producers, short film producers, and animators,” Santiago said. A new category has been opened by the New Wave with the HOOQ Short Film Competition accepting ten-minute film entries from both amateur and professional filmmakers. The deadline for submission of entries is on October 26, 2015.

The Thanksgiving evening was also attended by the producers of this year’s mainstream competition. The New Wave entries will be screened at the SM Megamall and Glorietta 4 cinemas on December 17-24, 2015 while all mainstream finalists of MMFF will open on Christmas Day nationwide.

The Podium is located at 12 ADB Ave., Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong.
