Ballet Manila marks its 20th anniversary with a retrospective composed of classical pieces, original modern choreography and excerpts from Filipino productions, trademark of the dance company.

Ballet Manila alumna Christine Rocas guests together with her Joffrey Ballet colleague Rory Hohenstein. The pair, who starred in the Chicago-based ballet company’s Romeo & Juliet earlier this year, will perform the famous Balcony Scene.

BM 2.0 also features the premiere of guest choreographer Anabelle Lopez Ochoa’s work “Bloom” specially made for the company. The multi-awarded half-Colombian, half-Belgian artist draws inspiration from a Balinese ritual centered on beauty and gratitude. “Bloom” is Ochoa’s very first piece for an Asian dance company. It makes use of movements and gestures reflective of the region as rendered by 19 male dancers and 6 female dancers. Primarily known for her contemporary numbers, for the first time Ochoa will have ballerinas in tutus.

The celebration of Ballet Manila’s 20th anniversary ends the current season, but will also be a prelude to the company’s special 20th performance season.
