Pow Martinez and Jeona Zoleta open up a shopping bag full of surprises (new works) in “Psychic Supermarket,” which opens on August 29, 2014 at Now Gallery and Auctions, ground floor, Ecoplaza Bldg., 2305 Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati City.

The show runs until September 10, 2014.

“Psychic Supermarket” is a metaphor for the consumption of goods in the art world. The art world and market, just like any supermarket, entails sorting from a pile of consumer goods that vie for one’s attention — endless rows of products that one may or may not buy.

Pow Martinez has always been known for his rough, textured canvasses of odd and rambling set of doodled paintings while Maria Jeona Zoleta’s unbridled and unapologetic musings on the pre-occupation of youth, pleasure, sexuality is earning her attention and accolades from art watchers and critics.

The works are visual puns on the blatant and blind devouring of products. The psychic part in art-making comes in the form of pure bliss, in various and several motions and states of mind that are approximated in their artworks. It is a bewildering journey into the bottomless mine of pop, punk, the surreal and the dreamlike.
