JOEY YUPANGCO AT GALLERIA DUEMILA

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

Galleria Duemila presents architect, industrial, and interior designer Joey Yupangco in ArtDtecture, an exhibit that begins with 10 spherical works.

The spheres are created from foam board, with a cutting knife that Yupangco yields both intuitively and deliberately to create layers of pieces that look simultaneously orderly and chaotic. They represent abstract cities that are devoid of hierarchies; this absence of any borders allows the viewer the freedom to see it from any perspective.

Yupangco and young architects Trix Liwanag and Mikee Silva then extrude graphic-like illustrations from the spheres for a visual impact that is art, design, and architecture at once. Yupangco also takes the lines and angles created within the spheres and present them in sculptural forms made of oxidized steel.
