MOVIE TOUR MANILA

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

In celebration of Araw ng Maynila, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD), in cooperation with the Digital Film Program and the Architecture Program of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, will have a tour with Carlos Celdran, tour guide, cultural activist, and performing artist. For 2 hours on Saturday, June 28, 2014, the participants will be taken to places around Manila that were featured in films.

The tour will focus on the architecture of the places in Manila featured in local and international films such as Cesar Gallardo’s 1964 FAMAS Award for Best Picture film Geron Busabos: Ang Batang Quiapo, Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 epic war film Apocalypse Now, Ishmael Bernal’s 1980 Filipino Gawad Urian Award winning drama film Manila By Night (City After Dark), and Tony Gilroy’s 2012 action film The Bourne Legacy.

This event is part of the public program for the exhibition The Surface of the World: Architecture and the Moving Image which runs until 27 September 2014 at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD). The exhibition is partially funded by the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts.

In 2000, Celdran worked as an assistant director of the Heritage Conservation Society, a non-profit organization working towards preserving historical architecture. In 2002, he launched his own tour company Walk This Way which gave his audience a different take on Philippine history.

The tour is made possible with the help of Cesar Hernando, Clodualdo del Mundo, Jun Juban, LVN , Raymond Red, Regal Entertainment, Society of Filipino Archivists for Film (SOFIA) and Universal Pictures. The tour will be held on 28 June, Saturday, 9:00am to 11:00am.
