SUMMER KOMIKON 2014

Wednesday, April 09, 2014

A decade ago, a group of friends organized the First Annual Philippine Komiks Convention in U.P. Diliman. From one event a year, it has grown to three events in a year, attended by thousands of comics enthusiasts and creators.

Summer Komikon 2014, the sixth of this event since 2009, will be held on April 12, 2014 from 10 am to 7pm at the Bayanihan Center, Unilab Compound in Pasig City.

This event will commemorate the very first Komikon starting with our special guests from 2005. First guest is international comic superstar, Leinil Yu, artist of Marvel titles such as Secret Invasion, Indestructible Hulk and the co-creator of Super Crooks and Superior. Comic creator Arnold Arre makes a comeback with his new book, Rodski Patoski: Ang Dalagang Baby, collaboration with Gerry Alanguilan. Arre also returns with two animated shorts, “Milky Boy” and “Andong Agimat: Kanya ang Kalye”. Third guest is Macoy Tang, an independent comic book artist, featuring his comic book “Ang Maskot”, which has been adapted into an indie short film directed by Chris Costello & Mihk Vergara. Both animated shorts of Arre and the indie movie of Macoy will be shown during the event.

Komikon will also be releasing their second publication, Sulyap 2. This is the second anthology featuring nine of the freshest creators who regularly release their own comic titles during past events and have won in Komikon contests. Komikon’s Komikalye, our very own lineup of local international stars features regular stalwarts: Stephen Segovia (Redhood & the Outlaws), Heubert Khan Michael (Vampirella), Lui Antonio (Deja Thoris), Jomar Bulda, and is joined by first timers: Mico Suayan (Thor), Jim Jimenez, Kim Jacinto (Thunderbolts), Elmer Damaso (Voltron Robotech).

Conference rooms C & D houses a showcase of new talents in the Indie Komiks Tiangge as well as the Komikon Nook, a place to read local comic books.

Be sure to come in early to get freebies! Gates open at 10am. Tickets are P100.
