In the tradition of Harry Houdini comes a new brand of showman: Jonathan Goodwin, escapologist extraordinaire. Inspired by the daredevils of old—men who would challenge themselves and risk their lives to perform jaw-dropping stunts for the pleasure of a live viewing audience—Goodwin counts the likes of Houdini, tightrope walker Charles Blondin, and strongman John Holtum among his idols.

“I have a passion for this Victorian level of theater,” he says, referring to the legends who are his sources of inspiration. “These are the guys who are gutsy and brave; they put their lives on the line for the sake of entertainment. They’re the guys I want to walk in the footsteps of to try and recreate what they’ve done.”

To that end, Goodwin has risked his own life several times over, much to the shock, delight, and disbelief of those gathered to witness it. He’s been buried alive, sealed himself in a chamber with 200,000 bees, and put a live scorpion in his mouth. He’s hung himself, nearly drowned himself, and locked himself in a cage with a professional fighter. It seems there are no lengths he will not go to just to challenge himself anew and get a reaction from those watching—and he’s not planning on stopping any time soon. “There really isn’t anything I can think of that I would not do or that I’m particularly afraid of. There’s always the challenge to make it bigger, spectacular, more dangerous,” he says.

Now, you’re going to get an inside look at exactly what it takes for him to perform these hair-raising feats in his new show airing on Kix, The Incredible Mr. Goodwin. It not only gives us an up-close look at the stunts themselves, but also the planning, training, and preparation that go into it. Here, Goodwin gives a glimpse at how he preps for his challenges and what other amazing spectacles this modern-day superhero has got up his sleeve.

What kind of jaw-dropping stunts will he attempt next? And will he be able to come out of it alive? Find out what happens and tune in to The Incredible Mr. Goodwin, airing on KIX (channel 63 on Skycable; channel 10 on Globe Destiny Cable; channel 55 on Cablelink)! Series premieres on February 16, 2014, Sunday at 10 p.m.
