FR. JOHN CORDERO AT THE ARTPRINTS ALLEY

Monday, February 17, 2014

Photography is said to be a recording of instances of light. For a priest like Fr. John Ma. Cordero, MMHC, seeing a blaze of light affirms the ways in which his photographs are blessings from the Creator of light.

In his 2nd solo exhibition entitled Slivers of Light, Fr. John Cordero uses his camera not only as a recording tool but a means of expressing hope, as when a fraction of light appears in the darkness, creating shadows that compliment light and allow insights to emerge from darkness.

His camera is prepared for any form of encounter as he travels throughout the Philippines and abroad. He finds the greatest personal satisfaction in capturing varied sprawls of people, spirited places, and nature scenes. "I like to see emotion and [the] light that envelope[s] it,” he says, "anything that speaks to me with emotion.”
