Soprano Sumi Jo, the finest Asian opera diva of this generation will give a special masterclass for young talented singers on February 2, 2014 at the Corazon Aquino Hall, St. Scholastica's College in Vito Cruz, Manila. The masterclass will start promptly at 5 in the afternoon.

Diva Sumi Jo started her training in Korea. For further studies, she went to Italy at the Academia de Sta. Cecilia in Rome and studied with legendary singers in the likes of tenor Carlo Bergonzi and soprano Elizabeth Schwarzkopf. At 16, she was invited to sing the role of Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto that caught the attention of the legendary conductor Herbert Von Karajan. Karajan described her as "Voice from Above" and "a rare voice that you find only once in a hundred years". This opened the door for Ms. Jo to conquer the world. She was invited to sing at the Metropolitan opera in New York, Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in London, Vienna Staatsoper, Berlin Staatsoper, Los Angeles opera, Salzburg Festival to name a few. She has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Sir Georg Solti, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, James Conlon, Giuseppe Sinopoli to name a few. Performed with the world's finest orchestras including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Berlin Philhamoniker, Chicago Symphony among others.

The masterclass is open to the public free of charge and is made possible by the Korean Cultural Center together with Edsa Shangrila Hotel and Steinway Boutique Manila in partnership with Cultural Arts Events Organizer, BusinessWorld, High Life, HerWord, DZFE.FM The Master's Touch, The Manila Times, Scribes Writing Essentials and Bulgogi's Brothers to give our Filipino artists the once-in-a-lifetime chance of learn from this Grammy Award winning artist whose wisdom, insight and artistry will help in honing their own artistry.
